Adama University is undergoing a fundamental shift from an old system to a new system. One of the significant changes taking place is the restructuring of Faculties into Schools, which comprise departments that are structured in a new way. The new configuration of departments has done away with a one-to-one correspondence of an academic department with the kind of degree it provides. Since both schools and departments are formed according to the principles of core and supplemental competencies, the programmes have to be output oriented with precise description of the competencies they combine in related core disciplines.
Adama University currently implements two programs simultaneously, the old and new. Accordingly, some study fields will phase out gradually and will be replaced by new. New courses are designed corresponding to the guiding framework, which is aligned to the nation?s and Oromia Region development needs. Moreover, new courses are introduced in some departments offering students an all rounded skill demanded by the economy.
